HJS Year 5/6 Football Girls Third Best In Norfolk!

Sport, Whole School, Year 5, Year 6

Our Year 5/6 Girls Football Team are officially the third best in the county!

On Thursday 8th March, Millie, Josie, Alice, Layla, Ella and Evie travelled to Goals Norwich to represent our school in the Level 3 county finals. Not only did the girls play fantastic football throughout the day, they came away with bronze (or as the girls have now called it, ‘rose tinted gold’) and only missed the match for gold/silver on goal difference.

In total, 16 teams made it through to the Norfolk School Games Finals and each team were placed into four groups of four. Each team played everyone else in a round robin format.  Once the group matches were completed, the teams that finished 1st or 2nd in each group qualified to go into the Cup Competition. The teams who finished 3rd or 4th moved into the Plate Competition.

We beat Weeting 4-0 (Alice x2, Josie and Millie), Firside 1-0 (Layla) and narrowly lost out in our last game 1-0 to Wreningham. This gave us enough points and a strong goal difference to top our group meaning we entered the cup competition!

The cup competition included all the teams that finished first or second in their group so we knew the standard would be high and again we battled it out in a round robin format.

After losing the first game 2-0 against Martham, we bounced back in two extremely tight games that both went down to the wire beating Woodlands 1-0 (Millie) and St Augustines 2-1 (Layla and Millie). As the group was so tight, we ended up joint first (second on goal difference).

At the culmination of the Cup, the teams who finished in the same position in each of the Cup groups played off against each other for overall position. Therefore, we had one last game against Wreningham (who had already beaten us 1-0 in the first group matches) for the Bronze spot!

The girls fought fantastically and gave 100% and Josie’s goal near the end of an extremely close game gave the girls third place with a 1-0 victory!

Both myself and Mr Parslow-Williams were hugely impressed with not only their skill and teamwork on the pitch, but also how the girls conducted themselves throughout the day. It was a pleasure to manage them.
